A $7.5 million philanthropic donation from Dennis Bastas, CEO of DBG Health, alongside DBG Health’s additional funding contribution, will support the establishment of a new health leadership academy. The Bastas Academy for Health Leadership, developed in partnership with the University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences and Melbourne Business School, aims to address critical leadership and workforce challenges within the global health sector.
In addition to this donation, Mr. Bastas and DBG Health will contribute an additional $2.5 million to fund leadership training for DBG Health employees and business partners.
The Academy will provide world-class leadership development programs designed to equip health professionals with the skills necessary to drive innovation, collaboration, and excellence in the industry. This initiative is a collaboration with Australia’s top-ranked health faculty and business school, reinforcing its commitment to high-quality education and industry impact.
Speaking at the launch, Mr. Bastas highlighted the importance of leadership in addressing current healthcare challenges:
“The healthcare industry is at an inflection point and in desperate need of fresh leadership to drive meaningful change. The Academy will provide opportunities for emerging health leaders from diverse backgrounds and help upskill the sector’s workforce with an innovative approach to complex health system challenges. Empowering this talent pipeline is key to a healthier future and a stronger health system in Victoria and Australia.”
Beyond education, the Bastas Academy for Health Leadership will foster an innovation ecosystem to ensure Australia remains a leader in driving improved health outcomes.
